InDietzien (2025)

InDietzien tells the extraordinary true story of former professional cyclist Bert Dietz, whose career and personal journey embody both triumph and adversity. In 2016, Dietz’s life hangs in the balance as he battles a severe heart condition. Reflecting on decades of experiences, he revisits the defining milestones of his career, his long-held observations, and a series of extraordinary events that culminate in a dramatic turning point in 2019.

The narrative charts Dietz’s rise from captain of the German National Cycling Team to one of the sport’s most respected riders. At the World Championships in Oslo, he enters the road race as leader of the World Cup standings. That pivotal season concludes with Dietz finishing second overall in the World Cup rankings, just behind 19-year-old rising star and newly crowned World Champion Jan Ullrich..

In 1994, Dietz joins the powerhouse professional team Deutsche Telekom (later T-Mobile). By his second professional season, he secures a career-defining victory on the prestigious queen stage of the Vuelta a España, solidifying his reputation as a world-class all-rounder. Yet despite his success, Dietz becomes increasingly disillusioned with the inner workings of professional cycling. At just 30, he retires from competition, later serving as a sports director for multiple teams.

In 2003, Dietz commits to an ambitious initiative promoting doping-free cycling. Though progressive in concept, the sport itself proves unprepared for such reform. In 2007, he publicly shares his story on Beckmann—then Germany’s most popular talk show. His candor earns him the German Television Award for “Best Interview of the Year,” while TV Spielfilm names the broadcast the “Television Highlight of the Year.”

What sets InDietzien apart is its depth, authenticity, and scope. Rooted in true events, the production blends powerful storytelling, striking visuals, and documented evidence. Dietz’s journey begins in 1992, in a small town in the Allgäu at the Bundeswehr Sports Group, and unfolds into a globe-spanning odyssey—an exploration of personal and professional challenges, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of a life shaped by sport.
